A new model for an art centre in downtown Toronto that combines affordable temporary housing and studio space for professional artists within a single building. Dedicated studios and shared work areas support a range of fabrication and experimental practices, creating an environment that accommodates both independent work and collaboration.

Semi private studios are defined by curtain wall enclosures and organized around a central meeting space, project table, and lounge. Mobile furnishings allow artists to adapt their studio layouts and integrate personal equipment as needed. Durable finishes, including resilient cork flooring, support heavy use, while wood paneling, acoustic ceiling panels, and carpeting provide sound control and introduce a material language inspired by the fiber structure of a loom.

3D Rendering modeled in Revit shows the potential for customization and multiple work-styles inside studios.

3D Rendering modeled in Revit demonstrates potential user interaction within the communal lounge and project areas.

2D Floorplan drawn in AutoCAD demonstrates the functional division of communal living and working spaces with vertical access to residential units.
